American Dream Condos for Retired Veterans in Florida

Last Tuesday, I had the honor of sitting in a room with three grandmothers and three retired veteran who served this great nation. The topic of discussion wasn’t one of celebration however, as I would love to report that I walked away from the encounter wiser, more enthused about the future of this country where my children may one day raise a family and enjoy one of God’s most beautifully painted landscapes on the globe. That wasn’t the case, however.

Miami is old. The foundations that were once graced by ideas in development from some of our most famous icons in music and film are now covered with condos and high rises of memories that creek, move and show the signs of aging marked by erosion and salt water. The unspoken headline shouting at these retirees and veterans who run many of these buildings is, “Renovate or Leave.”

Laws have swept over these counties mandating inspections and big repairs. And while the change is inevitably not a question of “if” but of “when”, as economical minds watch the fall before the rebuild, keepers of integrity, who understand the very basis of how this great nation was formed look to these elders through the lenses of respect and dignity.

And I ask myself, “How does this change present opportunity to honor our elders who came, fought, worked and lived here before us?”
